Hyaluronic acid body filler: volume and contour

Body filler is the application of hyaluronic acid with a consistency suited to the body, to restore volume and improve the contour of areas such as the buttocks, the lateral hip depressions (hip dips) and the abdomen. The result is immediate and, like all hyaluronic acid, the product can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. At Yamagata Dermatologia, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, it is applied by dermatologists after a medical evaluation.

How it works

The hyaluronic acid used on the body is a firmer gel than the one used on the face, developed to provide volume and support in larger areas. Applied with a cannula in defined planes, it restores volume and softens depressions, with results visible right after the procedure.

Because it is absorbable and reversible, hyaluronic acid allows adjustments and corrections, which sets it apart from permanent products such as PMMA and industrial silicone.

Indications

Treated areas

BodyButtocks · Lateral hip depressions (hip dips) · Abdomen

What a session is like

The doctor assesses the area with the patient standing and marks it. After cleaning and local anesthesia, the gel is applied with a cannula through small openings and shaped during the procedure. A session lasts about 1 hour.

Recovery

There may be swelling, tenderness and bruising for a few days. You can return to light activities the next day.

Sessions and results

The result is visible right after the application and settles over the following weeks. The number of sessions and the interval between them depend on the dermatologist's individual evaluation and on each patient's clinical concern.

Contraindications

Body filler is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, over wounds or active infections, or for people allergic to the product's components. Previous permanent fillers in the area require evaluation with dermatologic ultrasound.

At the evaluation, the dermatologist reviews your health history, current medications and previous procedures to confirm the indication.

All procedures are recommended and performed after an individual medical evaluation. Results vary from person to person.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between body filler and a biostimulator?

Hyaluronic acid filler restores volume immediately, at the point where it is applied. A biostimulator stimulates collagen production and gradually improves skin firmness. The two can be combined.

Is body filler permanent?

No. Hyaluronic acid is absorbed by the body over time and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, unlike permanent products such as PMMA and industrial silicone.

How long does it last?

Duration varies according to the amount of product, the area and each person's metabolism, and is estimated at the evaluation.
