Mesobotox: microdoses of botulinum toxin for texture and oiliness

Mesobotox is the application of microdoses of diluted botulinum toxin into the superficial layer of the skin, at many points close to one another. Unlike the traditional application, which acts on the muscles, mesobotox acts on the glands and the most superficial fibers of the skin, improving oiliness, enlarged pores, texture and glow. At Yamagata Dermatologia, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, it is performed by dermatologists after a medical evaluation.

How it works

In mesobotox, botulinum toxin is diluted and applied in very small amounts into the dermis (the layer of skin just below the surface), in a grid of closely spaced points. At this depth, the toxin reduces the activity of the sebaceous glands and of the small muscle fibers attached to the skin, without significantly reaching the muscles of expression.

The result is skin with less oiliness and shine, less visible pores, more even texture and softened fine lines, while keeping the natural movement of the face.

Indications

Treated areas

Face and neckFace · T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) · Neck

What a session is like

After the skin is cleaned, a numbing cream is applied. The doctor then performs the micro-injections with a very fine needle, at many points spread across the treated area.

Recovery

Right after the session, small bumps appear at the injection points and disappear within a few hours. Small bruises may occur. You can return to your activities on the same day.

Sessions and results

The effect starts to be noticed within a few days and is complete in about two weeks, lasting on average three to four months. The number of sessions and the interval between them depend on the dermatologist's individual evaluation and on each patient's clinical concern.

Contraindications

Mesobotox (botulinum toxin) is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, for people with neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis, for those allergic to the product's components, or over infections, severe inflamed acne or other active inflammation in the area.

At the evaluation, the dermatologist reviews your health history, current medications and previous procedures to confirm the indication.

All procedures are recommended and performed after an individual medical evaluation. Results vary from person to person.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between mesobotox and traditional botulinum toxin?

In the traditional application, the toxin is injected into the muscles to soften expression lines. In mesobotox (botulinum toxin), diluted microdoses are applied to the superficial layer of the skin, where they act on the oil glands and superficial fibers, without significantly relaxing the muscles.

Does mesobotox (botulinum toxin) reduce oily skin?

Yes. The microdoses reduce the activity of the sebaceous (oil) glands, which decreases shine and the appearance of enlarged pores, especially in the T-zone.

Does mesobotox (botulinum toxin) change facial expression?

No. Because the doses are very small and applied to the surface of the skin, muscle movement is preserved.

How long does the effect last?

On average, three to four months. Duration varies according to each person's skin, and how often to repeat the treatment is defined by the dermatologist.
