Hair mesotherapy: scalp micro-injections for hair loss
Hair mesotherapy is the application of micro-injections of active ingredients directly into the scalp, in areas of hair loss or thinning. The ingredients, chosen by the doctor, stimulate the hair growth cycle and are used in the treatment of baldness and other causes of hair loss, as a complement to medical treatment. At Yamagata Dermatologia, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, it is performed by dermatologists after a medical evaluation.

How it works
The active ingredients applied in mesotherapy reach the follicle area directly, where they stimulate local circulation and the hair growth cycle. The choice of ingredients depends on the cause of the hair loss, defined at the appointment and, when necessary, with digital trichoscopy.
Mesotherapy complements medical treatment and works best when combined with the medications prescribed for each case.

What a session is like
The hair is parted into sections and the scalp is cleaned. The doctor applies the active ingredients with fine needles, at many points spread across the areas of hair loss or thinning. A session lasts about 1 hour.
Recovery
The injection points may be tender for a few hours, and there may be small bruises. You can return to your activities on the same day.
Sessions and results
The number of sessions and the interval between them depend on the dermatologist's individual evaluation and on each patient's clinical concern. The improvement is gradual, since the hair cycle takes months.
Contraindications
Hair mesotherapy is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, over wounds, infections or active inflammation of the scalp, or for people allergic to the ingredients used. Bleeding disorders require evaluation.
At the evaluation, the dermatologist reviews your health history, current medications and previous procedures to confirm the indication.
All procedures are recommended and performed after an individual medical evaluation. Results vary from person to person.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between hair mesotherapy and hair MMP?
In mesotherapy, the active ingredients are applied with manual micro-injections at points on the scalp. In MMP, a microneedle device spreads the medication evenly across the whole area. Both techniques can be combined in the same session.
Does hair mesotherapy work for baldness?
It can help as part of the treatment, together with the medications prescribed at the appointment. The response is better when treatment starts early, while the follicles are still active.
Does it hurt?
The sensation is of pricks, which vary with the sensitivity of the scalp. The application is quick and usually well tolerated.
