Chin filler: projection and definition with hyaluronic acid

Chin filler is the application of firm hyaluronic acid to the chin to increase its projection, define the contour and balance the facial profile, without surgery. One of the products used at the clinic is Restylane Shaype (hyaluronic acid), developed to give structure and projection to the chin. At Yamagata Dermatologia, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, it is performed by dermatologists after a medical evaluation.

How it works

The chin is one of the supporting bases of the lower third of the face. When it is not very projected, from birth or due to bone loss with aging, the profile becomes unbalanced, the nose looks bigger and the line between the face and the neck loses definition.

The filler uses firm hyaluronic acid, applied close to the bone, to create projection and structure. Restylane Shaype (hyaluronic acid), one of the products used at the clinic, was developed for this purpose, with a gel capable of supporting the shape of the chin.

Indications

Treated areas

Lower faceChin (mentum) · Transition between chin and jawline

What a session is like

The doctor analyzes the face from the front and in profile, assesses the relationship between the chin, nose and lips, and defines the amount and the injection points. After cleaning and applying a numbing cream, the gel is applied with a needle or cannula and shaped during the procedure.

Recovery

There may be swelling, tenderness and small bruises in the first few days, as well as mild discomfort when chewing. You can return to your activities on the same day.

Sessions and results

The result is visible right after the application and settles over the following weeks. The number of sessions and the interval between them depend on the dermatologist's individual evaluation and on each patient's clinical concern. The effect lasts, on average, 12 to 18 months and varies from person to person.

Contraindications

Chin filler is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, over infections or active inflammation in the area, or for people allergic to the product's components. Previous permanent fillers or implants in the chin require evaluation.

At the evaluation, the dermatologist reviews your health history, current medications and previous procedures to confirm the indication.

All procedures are recommended and performed after an individual medical evaluation. Results vary from person to person.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does chin filler replace chin surgery?

In cases of mild to moderate chin retrusion, filler can bring a similar result without surgery. In marked retrusion or when it is associated with bite problems, surgery may be more appropriate, and the medical evaluation defines the indication.

What is Restylane Shaype (hyaluronic acid)?

It is a firm hyaluronic acid filler developed specifically to give projection and definition to the chin. Like all hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.

Does chin filler help with a double chin?

It can help indirectly. By projecting the chin, the line between the face and the neck becomes more defined, which reduces the appearance of a double chin. When there is fat accumulation or sagging skin, other treatments may be combined.

How long does it last?

On average, 12 to 18 months, depending on the product and each person's metabolism.
