Diamond peel: mechanical exfoliation for smoother skin
A diamond peel is a superficial mechanical exfoliation done with a diamond-tipped handpiece combined with gentle suction. It removes dead cells from the outermost layer of the skin, leaving the surface smoother and brighter, with no recovery needed. It is used alone or combined with facial cleansing and other treatments. At Yamagata Dermatologia, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, it is indicated after a dermatological evaluation.

- No downtime

- Light scraping and suction
How it works
The device's handpiece has a diamond-coated surface that gently sands the outermost layer of the skin, while gentle suction removes the loosened cells. With the surface renewed, the skin becomes smoother and brighter, and products applied afterwards penetrate better.
Because it acts only on the surface, the diamond peel is a maintenance and skin-preparation treatment, with no deep effect on dark spots, wrinkles or scars.

What a session is like
The skin is cleaned, and the professional passes the handpiece over the area in continuous movements, adjusting the suction intensity. The sensation is of light scraping. At the end, moisturizer and sunscreen are applied. A session lasts about 1 hour when combined with other care, such as facial cleansing.
Recovery
The skin may be slightly pink for a few hours. You can return to your activities and wear makeup on the same day.
Sessions and results
The skin is smoother right after the session. The number of sessions and the interval between them depend on the dermatologist's individual evaluation and on each patient's clinical concern.
Contraindications
The diamond peel is not recommended over inflamed acne, wounds, infections or active herpes, over irritated or sunburned skin, or on areas with very visible spider veins or active rosacea. Recent use of isotretinoin requires evaluation.
At the evaluation, the dermatologist reviews your health history, current medications and previous procedures to confirm the indication.
All procedures are recommended and performed after an individual medical evaluation. Results vary from person to person.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a diamond peel and a chemical peel?
A diamond peel is a mechanical exfoliation, done with a diamond-tipped handpiece, and acts only on the most superficial layer of the skin. A chemical peel uses acids and can reach deeper layers, with a greater effect on dark spots and texture.
Does a diamond peel make the skin peel?
No. Because the exfoliation is very superficial, there is no visible peeling. The skin may be slightly pink for a few hours.
Can it be done together with facial cleansing?
Yes. The diamond peel is often combined with facial cleansing, to remove dead cells and make it easier to extract blackheads.
