Buttocks: volume, contour, laxity and cellulite
The most common concerns about the buttocks are loss of volume and contour, skin laxity and cellulite. They result from genetics, reduced collagen, weight changes and loss of muscle mass with age. Treatment is individualized and combines collagen biostimulators, hyaluronic acid body filler and subcision, according to what predominates in each case. At Yamagata Dermatologia, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, the plan is defined by a dermatologist at the appointment.

Why it happens
The shape of the buttocks depends on the muscles, fat distribution and skin firmness. With age, the loss of muscle mass and collagen reduces support; weight changes and pregnancy alter volume and elasticity; and cellulite, common in this area, makes the relief uneven.
How the evaluation is done
The dermatologist assesses the area standing, from the front, in profile and from behind, and identifies what predominates: volume loss, laxity, lateral hip depressions or cellulite. They also ask about previous procedures in the area, which may require evaluation with dermatologic ultrasound.

In most cases, the plan combines more than one technique, such as a biostimulator for firmness and subcision for cellulite, with filler when the goal includes volume and contour.
All procedures are recommended and performed after an individual medical evaluation. Results vary from person to person.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Does the treatment replace buttock implants?
No. The treatments improve contour, firmness and skin quality and can provide a moderate gain in volume, but they do not produce the increase of an implant.
I have had buttock fillers with another product. Can I be treated?
What was applied needs to be identified. Buttock mapping with dermatologic ultrasound shows the location and likely type of material and guides the plan.
Does exercise help?
Yes. Strengthening the gluteal muscles improves contour and complements the effect of the treatments on the skin.
When do the results show?
Filler has an immediate effect; the biostimulator works gradually, from the second or third month.
